Too Much on My Plate

Description

Complete title:
Too Much on My Plate/Loosing All My Marbles :D

There has been some of my 'stuff' I've felt tempted to paint the last couple of years, because of it's color, texture, beauty, weirdness, you name it. I really needed color in my life right now so I decided to broach one of these 'still lifes', finally and chose a subject full of color.

These marbles are my husband's, from his childhood. Some are opaque, some transluscent, some transparent, some glass and some rounded stone. I love their unique colors, patterns and effects. They do range from very tiny sub marble size to quite large 'shooters'. Everything else in the drawing belongs to me.

I developed a theme for it after I set it up. Too Much on My Plate....which seems to be a rather troubling pesky theme in my life these past few years, but looks rather warm and cheerful on the page. Hmm, underlying subconscious view of my life, or merely my humorous take on the comically silliness of life's absurdities? Beats me.

I have included links to some enlarged details of the drawing for those who may be interested.

This is a colored pencil drawing 9 x 18. It has several brands of pencils in it and multiple layers. It was basically a joy to work on from beginning to end.

I started with Berol Verithin pencils for the 1st layer because they are hard, lay down a smooth layer, but at the same time can be erased easily and smoothed and blurred slightly with the finger. Next I used Faber Castell water color pencils because they can be erased easily. The last two brands were Caran D'ache water color pencils and the very last Sanford Prismacolor. I used water with some of the Faber Castell and some of the Caran D'ache applications. Prismacolor, with it's waxy, smooth, oily sensation was a joy to apply over the other colors but was used only in specific areas and sparingly since it builds beautifully but doesn't erase easily. Some areas have a half a dozen layers and some have probably a couple dozen layers of color.
