This really captures the feeling of escape one gets from reading....  Also, you did a fantastic job capturing the anatomy of the knees and feet, which are not easy to draw/paint.

I just love it! The magic of reading a book and the warm cozy blanket. And I think the name fits perfectly.

absolutely one of my favorites of yours!

also one of my favorite positions and pass-times...
My Mom always said when my head was in a book I was somewhere else and the ceiling could fall on my head and I wouldn't know... ;-)

great stuff!

I love the concept here and the atmosphere. Her pose is so nice, curled up reading as if completely immersed in that world, and the colours are so soft, dreamy and warm. I love the birds. I love everything about it, actually :)

LOL Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was the way she was, lost in the book, on vacation to the beach in a wonderful two story rambling beach house. ahhh.....

Thank you. Drawing an 11 year old child, remembering the past, can bring that out.

Thanks. The bird section may not lead back into the painting well enough. Originally I was going to do something a little different with that corner...........hmm

I faved this wonderful piece some time ago, but never commented on it....It's been said by many people, it is such a great piece, and the love for your daughter and the situation shows so clearly. You have a great style that goes with the subject. the details throughout the whole painting, yet my view is led to your daughters face. I can only bow for you! :)

Thanks. I had planned to redo it, and I may some day. I love the colors and textures, but I wasn't entirely happy with it. However, after letting it sit for a long while I decided it had merit even so.

I love the quite contemplation that this portrays. Like so much of your work, a moment in real time takes on a very ethereal aspect by the addition of some element or another, in this case, the birds on wing.

It speaks to the adventures that we can have while reading books, traversing the globe or rocketing to another galaxy altogeather as we let our imagination soar.

I love the highlights on the hair: the yellow, slipping into gold against autumn rust, popped by the splashs of crimson red on the tresses. The texture of the terry cloth towel works well against the fabric of the seat.

Thanks for sharing!

I was really caught by the look of her all curled up, in her own little world after having being on the beach and getting a shower. She had been running up and down the stairs tossing that thick gorgeous wet hair around as she dashed this way and that (which I made redder, by the way:D) and then she was suddenly still on that paradise of a couch with that red towel lost in her own little world. I did a quick study in oil and took some photos.....

With reading, we become our own blackholes, our own rabbit hole down which we disappear to heaven's know where. I wanted to capture her and her magic carpet and try to depict some element of the magic. At first I was going to paint several things behind her but decided the birds were enough.

Again, and always thanks for taking time to comment.
